about me
In the summer of 1997, I fell in love with photography.
I was at a friend’s house in Florida when we decided to take her father’s old Canon A1 out to a park to take photographs of each other all fancied up. Never mind that images weren’t actually being taken, since the film wasn’t loaded correctly and not advancing, it was more about capturing the moment. I loved the way taking pictures of my friend made me feel. We wouldn’t be young forever, but thanks to that camera, we could always remember. We eventually did get the film fixed and had a blast for the rest of the day creating memories in black and white.
That day led me to enrolling in an introductory course in photography at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, Iowa. At the time, I was a student at Iowa State University majoring in Speech and Language Pathology. I drove to Ankeny twice a week to learn the basics of photography from Curt Stahr, who ultimately led me to make the decision to go to Brooks Institute after graduating from Iowa State.
I set out for California the day after graduation, moved all of my belongings and jumped in with both feet. I knew it was going to be a challenging three-year program, but I chose it as my profession because it had chosen me that summer day.
I graduated from Brooks in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Portraiture. I have been shooting ever since, while mixing in getting married and having two children. I belong to Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and love to keep learning about recent trends in my profession. I am constantly evolving, learning and creating. I have enjoyed creating memories for so my friends, family and clients and I look forward to working with you to capture your most cherished memories.
I would like to thank the following photographers who have taught me and inspired me to follow my dream: Joyce Wilson, Mindy Myers, Ana Schechter, Bob Smith, Ralph Clevenger, Dean DePhillipo, Greg Voight, Paul Meyer, Rob Winner, Ann Montieth, Carol Andrews, Curt Stahr and (last but NOT least!) Damon Tucci.
